Like with every art, there are always areas to improve.
Oh, editing. That annoying process where I need to give up on the beloved paragraphs and rearrange when I am eager to publish. I need to revise my plot: is there an incident, progressive complications, choice, climax and how unexpected is the resolution. How vivid are my characters? It might be worth it to note the significance of each paragraph. It gives me clarity and purpose. And if a paragraph is boring or aimless, I don’t hold on to it.
Context matter. Time and place, are they convincing?
Clichés. You do not need them. And yes, word choice matters.
And equally important, I leave the story to rest, the distance gives me a new perspective and refreshes my perceptiveness to all of the above.
